The west district of the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union metropolis with the population of 2 million in the Silesian Highlands on the Kłodnica river (tributary of the Oder) in the Silesian Voivodeship since its formation in 1999, previously in Katowice Voivodeship. The 2008 population of the city was 189,062. [July 2009]
