  • Daugavpils synagogue [Cietokšņa St 28, +371 542 00 92] is now Kadiša prayer house was built in 1850 and is the only functioning prayer house in the city now. The building has a classically-influenced design with a prominent Star of David on one façade. Reconsecrated in 2006 after a restoration project funded by the family of the artist Mark Rothko (1903-70), who was born in the city, and the United States Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad. Another synagogue, built around 1900, was a sports club in the 1990s.

    Jewish Community of Daugavpils, 29 Seknu St., Daugavpils, Latvia has a synagogue and community center. The Jewish Cultural Society of Daugaupils (Chair, Sophia Meyerova) advises that records of the cemetery covering seventy years exist. The cemetery is also the burial place of Dvinsk's most famous mitnagid and Chassidic rabbis of the period 1910-1930. Source: Mike Getz, Bethesda, MD 20814[date?]

    The  Jewish cemetery of Daugavpils (Latvia) [May 2013]

    Old Cholera Cemetery: The Jewish Cholera Cemetery in Vecā Forštate (suburb) on peninsula of Sunezers Lake dates from the 17th century. Only one-half of one broken tombstone from the 1830s. Next Oldest Cemetery: Totally destroyed by the Soviets in the 1970s. A few old tombstones, including some famous rabbis, were transferred into the Daugavpils Jewish cemetery. Original cemetery is no longer in existence.

    Old Cemetery: Lake Gubishche cemetery dates from the end of the 18th century.

    244 gravestones. New Jewish cemetery: Novembra St 18. Two famous rabbis, the Rogachover Gaon (Yosef Rozin [Rosen], 1858-1936) and Rabbi Meir Simcha HaKohen, moved here from the town's old Jewish cemetery, founded in the eighteenth century and destroyed in the 1970s.

    MASS GRAVE 1: The mass grave in Daugavpils with no signs for the site. Take Daugavas Street, turn onto road P67, and drive toward Riga for about 900m. Date: Summer 1941.

    MASS GRAVE 2:  Forest "Mezciems" on Road P67. Go 400 m and turn right, leaving Lake Trikartu on the left. Date: November 8-9, 1941.

    MASS GRAVE 5: Mezciems Forest. A road sign by the highway reads "The grave of Victims of Fascism terror". Take Daugavas street and turn in 500 m onto Stures Street. Go 300m and turn left.

    MASS GRAVE 6: pie Balta Gulbja. No road signs for the site, but located behind the town jail to the left.

    MASS GRAVE 7: Lauce Mass Grave. administrative unit of Lauce, near road from Daugavpils to Demene,at the sign that reads"Silene-22km". July 1941.
