Levočská in Poprad Cemetery: Located in the south part of the city amid private garden, the site is accessible from the railway station Poprad -Spišská Sobota by foot. Reportedly established in the late 19th century, the cemetery was used by the local Orthodox community. The fenced plot of 45x65 m can be entered by a gatehouse bearing Hebrew inscription. In the cemetery, which is divided by a path into a male and a female sides. Approximately around 100 standing and hundred toppled gravestones are visible. The majority are granite, marble and sandstone with Hebrew, Hungarian and German inscriptions. Except for simple steles, more ornate gravestones are sarcophagus shape or in the shape of broken tree. Gravestones are decorated with traditional Jewish symbols, eg, Levite ewer, blessing hands of Cohanim, the Star of David and candlestick. Also found are carved flower baskets or vases with flowers on women's gravestones. Until Summer 2008, the cemetery was abandoned and in pitiful conditions as a gathering place for homeless people and playground for vandals. Poprad is located in Poprad, NW of Spisska Nova Ves. The isolated flat urban location is reached by turning directly off a public road. Access is open to all via a broken masonry wall and a non-locking gate. 20-100 19th-20th century marble and granite flat shaped tombstones or finely smoothed and inscribed tombstones with Hebrew and German inscriptions are in original locations. Adjacent properties are residential. Private citizens visit rarely. Within the cemetery is a pre-burial house with Hebrew wall inscriptions. Pollution and Security are moderate threats; vandalism is a serious threat.
