Jewish Cemetery of San Nicolò: Viale Cipro 70. Jewish Museum; Telephone: +39.041 715359. Lido di Venezia: (Via Cipro 70 and Riviera San Nicolo 2) on the island of Lido dates back to 1386. Its 17th century vertical tombstones have particularly interesting Hebrew inscriptions. A fenced wood exists. The cemetery grounds began as a vineyard adjacent to the Benedictine monastery of San Nicolo di Mira. In the 1800s, a new cemetery was opened in an adjacent area. The Lido then became urban. Excavations revealed many long hidden graves. The tombstones are once again enclosed, many not in original place. Originally reserved for the Sephardim, graves faced toward Venice. There are numerous pictures and more details about the tombstones.
