Punxsatawney Jewish Cemetery: located nearby in Cloe, PA. William Gresock of Gresock Lawn Service is the caretaker. R.D.#6 Box 116, Punxsutawney, PA 15671. Raymond Whitzman used old synagogue memorial plaques and a map of the cemetery to verify older gravestones. Many of the earliest Jewish residents of Punxsutawney came from Dorbyan, Lithuania. Directions: Take Rt. 36 south out of Punxsutawney. Go 3 miles south to Cloe. In Cloe, turn right on SR2011 towards Rossiter. Pass Cloe Lumber. From the intersection, go 0.2 miles towards Rossiter. A Penn D.O.T. road sign that says "Cemetery". Turn right on the dirt road that goes up the hill to the cemetery about 0.2 miles. You are now at Oaklawn Cemetery. Once up to the cemetery, keep going straight. The road goes around that cemetery and up through the cemetery and soon turns 90 degrees left. It continues another couple hundred yards up the hill and then makes another 90 degree turn to the left. After that turn, on the right side of the road is the Jewish cemetery. When you exit, continue on the road and soon the road turns 90 degrees to the left again. After that turn, you go a couple hundred yards down to where you came in. Falls Creek, PA - For the past five months State Police of DuBois had been looking for the original location of a headstone found along the highway in Jefferson County. The tombstone is a memorial to Lazaraus Light, who died in 1908, and was only eight months old.
Now after 5 months the original location of the headstone was found by a historical society in Brookville. The headstone is from the Cloe Jewish Cemetery, more than 20 miles from where it was found.
"It's going to go back tonight," said Corporal Paul Olsakovsky, of the Pennsylvania State Police. "The Jefferson County Historical Society will return it to the cemetery." [November, 2007]
