  - Cypress Hills Cemetery: 625 Jamaica Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11208-1203, (718)277-2900. This well-tended, non-sectarian cemetery with some Jewish burials is very easy to research, but now deals with vandalism. Cemetery does not "overlook Jamaica Bay" as reported in Postal & Koppman. Jewish Tourist's Guide to U.S. Phila.: Jewish Publ. Soc., 1954, p.450 but does date from 1851. This email address is being protected from spambots.     One of four NYC cemeteries used by Noah Benevolent Society. Noah Ben. Soc., in December 1849, bought plots in Cypress Hills Cemetery.     NOTE: Cypress Hills is a large association that overtime apparently sold off areas to more localized cemeteries. Local cemeteries apparently changed names between their local area and Cypress Hills. For example, Salem Fields has been called Cypress Hills in many records. Therefore, checking all contiguous cemeteries if no burial appears in Cypress Hills' records is advisable.[July 2003]
  - Cypress Hills (Brooklyn) and Woodhaven (neighborhood of Queens) are next to each other. Many early death certificates listing Cypress Hills is not the actual burial site. Cypress Hills Cemetery is surrounded by the following Jewish Cemeteries: to the east is Maimonides and east of Maimonides is Mt. Hope. North of Cypress Hills is Mt. Carmel, Mt. Neboh and New Mt. Carmel. New Mt. Carmel extends to Cooper Ave with an entrance there and is just north of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. These two cemeteries have their entrances on Cypress Hills St (1). Also north and to the east of CHC, with its entrance along Myrtle Ave. (and located in Glendale (Queens County), NY is Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The fence that separates Maimonides and Cypress Hills. Cemeteries was moved. A matter of fact, one of the 12 CHC Jewish sections that border the Maimonides Cemetery fence is called Maimonides. Further to this point, Mt. Carmel and Mt. Lebanon Cemeteries fences were also moved many, many years ago which means burials not located in CHC may be in either Maimonides, Mt. Carmel or Mt. Lebanon Cemeteries. across Cypress Hills St. and not effected by the Cypress Hills Cemetery border changes are the following cemeteries: Salem Fields, Beth Olam, Hungarian Union Fields and Machpelah. West of Hungarian Union Fields is Union Fields and the northern entrance to Mt. Judah Cemetery. [June 2006] *I have visually confirmed that family names across the fence in Maimonides Cemetery are the same as those in the adjacent section in CDC. The beautiful and well-kept cemetery has been full for years and is not manned on a regular basis.   - Mount Hope Cemetery: 895 Jamaica Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11208. (718)347-0095. In 1883, Noah Benevolent Society bought 136 plots in Mount Hope Cemetery for Noah Lodge Section 2. In 1904, the paths in the section were paved. Some were sold immediately to families to raise money. By 1934, all the plots had been sold to families.   - Salem Fields Cemetery: (Temple Emanu-El) 775 Jamaica Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11208. (718)277-3898. Salem Fields is a very "fancy" cemetery with many "Our Crowd" family burials and many instantly recognizable names interred. Many plots and mausoleums were purchased before the 1900's. (Inception of the cemetery was 1850's. One plot that was bought as late as the 1930's. Plots are no longer for sale although the cemetery is spacious and will never be crowded. With winding paths, Salem Field has a tremendous amount of Jewish history. Unfortunately, the terrible surrounding neighborhood (just off of Brooklyn Queens Expressway) of Salem Fields detracts from its beauty. Source: This email address is being protected from spambots. Meretz: [The Meretz Relief Association of New York: {10285} only 18 names. Meretz owned at least two cemetery sections. Their revised constitution of 1936 mentions 10 remaining plots in Section 4 at Washington Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York and 40 remaining plots in Section 59 at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Customarily, such burial societies made a bulk purchase of plots in close proximity to each other for member use. The Meretz section in Washington Cemetery has a beautiful arched entrance gate that was erected by the society. There is also a Meretz Cemetery in Boston, Massachusetts. [Stan Lipson, 648 E.
