see Vineland: Forty-two Jewish families fleeing Russian pogroms in the late 1800s start Alliance Colony, one of the first Jewish agricultural settlements in the United States. Jewish Federation of Cumberland County wants restore Moshe Bayuk's brick house across the steet from the Alliance Synagogue as the Alliance Heritage Center. (Bayuk was a lawyer, Jewish scholar, and farmer who died in 1932.) Philadelphia Daily News story Project would restore historic Jewish site: "...the Garden State Preservation Trust ratified and sent to the legislature a recommendation to fund a project that could help the Jewish Federation of Cumberland County spread the word about those Hebrew letters, the cemetery and synagogue they adorn."
