Hebrew Cemetery: On Angel Street. From Highway 80, take Virginia Street north 3 blocks to West 11th Street. Turn west (no road goes east.) Go 4 blocks to Angel Street and turn south. (No road goes North.) 89503. The cemetery has been in use from 1876 to the present according to Mel Gordon (702)825-2757 of Temple Emanu-El; Temple Sinai. The Hebrew Cemetery is used by all the local and not so local synagogues, including Temple Emanu-El. The site has 300+ graves and a caretaker. This is the only entirely Jewish cemetery in northern Nevada except for the one in Virginia City that is hard to find. The Hebrew Benevolent Society purchased and fenced two acres of land for a cemetery adjoining the private burial ground of Mr. Sanders, commonly known as the Hillside Cemetery. An avenue 30 feet wide was laid out around the Society's ground. Located on Angel Street near the University of Nevada, Reno. The Hebrew Cemetery has been in use since 1878 and is still active. The only entirely Jewish Cemetery in Northern Nevada except for the one in Virginia City, as of February 2006, the caretaker's cottage existed on the cemetery property, but as of Febraury 2010 the caretaker's cottage no longer exists. 410 interments [July 2011]
