A port city of northern Colombia near the Caribbean on the Magdalena River.

In 1853, the Jews of Barranquilla were granted a plot of ground by the government to be set aside as a cemetery. 

Barranquilla now has three Jewish cemeteries:  the Old Sefaradi, the New Sefaradi, and the Ashkenazi [August 2020]

History of the Jewish community. In Barranquilla, the third largest Jewish community in Colombia, the 1955 Jewish population was 865 Jews of whom approximately half were East Europeans, one-third Sephardim, and the rest Germans. Their organizations include the Club Unión, a social organization for the community as a whole; religious institutions maintained individually ; general organizations such as B'nai B'rith, etc.; and an umbrella organization that includes all of the organizations. The day school has a student enrollment of 300. [July 2009]
