About 2,500 Jews lived in Karachi at the beginning of the twentieth century with a smaller community in Peshawar and a number scattered elsewhere throughout the country. There were synagogues in both cities but only the one in Peshawar still exists. Jews from Central Asia and neighbooring Iran as well as Afghanistan settled in Pakistan. Jewish history. [January 2010]
