NOTES:

  • The creation of this cemetery in 1812 was a joint undertaking between the Jewish communities of Hörstein and those of Alzenau together with Wasserlos.

  • The cemetery is enclosed by a solid stone wall, which has a double metal entrance gate.

  • Desecration took place in January 1936 when 100 gravestones were uprooted. A second desecration occurred in January 1937.

  • The cemetery is maintained in excellent order by the city of Alzenau. The ground is owned by the Landesverbandes Israelitischer Kultusgemeinden in Bayern.
