Later, during the tenure of the only Jewish Governor, Sir Mathew Nathan, the Community acquired an adjacent piece of land and the cemetery, now completely surrounded by highrises, is an oasis of peace and tranquility. /All three hundred gravestones have been meticulously recorded, photographed and translated and this information is in the process of being digitized. It is hoped that at sometime in the future the cemetery project will be expanded to include Jewish cemeteries in SE Asia, including Burma and Penang, some of which are badly neglected and may be at risk of being requisitioned by the Authorities."
