v. Yarun is located in Zhitomirskaya, 11 km from Novograd-Volynskiy. The mass grave is located at Urochshche Paseka. Present town population is 1,000-5,000 with fewer than 10 Jews.

The earliest known Jewish community was 1880. 1926 Jewish population (census) was 777. Effecting the Jewish Community was May 5 1942 when 281 Jews died, the Hasidic mass grave. Jews from no other towns or villages were murdered at this unlandmarked mass grave. The rural (agricultural) flat land by water has no sign or marker. Reached by turning directly off a public road and crossing other public property, access is open to all. A continuous fence with non-locking gate surrounds the mass grave. 1 to 20 common tombstones, all in original location with none toppled or broken, date in the 20th century. No stones were removed. The site contains marked mass graves. The present owners of the mass grave property are the municipality and mass burial site. The mass grave property is now used for mass burial site. Properties adjacent are agricultural and river Tzerem. Rarely, local residents visit. This mass grave was not vandalized. Local/municipal authorities cleared vegetation and, in 1980, set new monument. Now, occasionally, authorities clear or clean. Moderate threat: uncontrolled access. Slight threat: weather erosion, pollution, vegetation, vandalism, and proposed nearby development.
