I visited this village twice in the last 5 years, hoping to find family gravestones. Not a single stone remains. The stones were probably stolen and reused in the adjoining Christian cemetery. I spent a few hours searching for any Jewish remnant. Nothing to be found. Source: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. [August 2009]

US Commission No. SLCE000340: Kmetovo is located N of Nove Zamky. Last known Jewish burial was in 1937. The flat urban location, separate but near other cemeteries, has no sign or marker. Reached by turning directly off a public road, access is open to all via a broken fence and no gate. Present size of the cemetery is 15x15 meters. Four 19th-20th century marble and granite tombstones, two in original location, are flat shaped tombstones or finely smoothed and inscribed stones with Hebrew and German inscriptions. Adjacent properties are cemetery. The cemetery is visited rarely. Vegetation is a moderate seasonal problem; pollution, vandalism, and incompatible development (existing and planned) are very serious threats.
