Other towns are sometimes listed among the cities of Zagłębie: Zawiercie, Poręba, Włodowice, Kroczyce, Ogrodzieniec, Łazy and Olkusz. Yizkor. At the start of WWII, 100,000 Jews lived in the Zagłębiearea. On August 12, 1942, all the Jews of the region were gathered. After a selection, 12,500 of them deemed unfit for work were sent to Aushwitz for immediate extermination. The reswere sent to slave labor camps. [July 2009]
