Ponedel Jews were all Chassidim. In 1915, when the Russian Army retreated, Cossacks ordered that the Jewish population evacuate within 24 hours. The Germans captured Ponedel so quickly that many returned although great number of Ponedel Jews evacuated into Russia and came back in 1920-1922. more information [March 2009]
