in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.

The first Jews settled after 1750. After 1855, the congregation belonged to the rabbinate of Mandok. Zahony was an interwar border crossing between Hungary and Czechoslovakia with border guards causing unpleasantness for local Jews. In 1944, the Jews of Zahony were transported to the ghetto in Kisvarda and at the end of May, were deported to Auschwitz ending Jewish life in Zahony. No one returned. [February 2009]
