Used cemetery at Blevice. City in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic with about 18,000 inhabitants on the Vltava River some 25 km north of Prague, the capital of both the Czech Republic and the Central Bohemian Region. City consists of the following neighborhoods: Kralupy, Lobeč, Lobeček, Minice, Mikovice, and Zeměchy. These neighborhoods were separate villages before the creation of the city in the beginning of the 20th century. Significant population growth did not begin until the 19th century. Construction of the railroad stimulated a strong population growth. Factories were built near the railroad. The Oil Campaign of World War II targeted the oil refinery on December 28, 1944. During the communist rule (1948-89) the city lacked democratic municipal government. The city center was damaged by flood in 2002. [February 2009]
