Cementerio Israelita in General City Cemetery : In 1878, the German-Jewish Tefel family founded the "Cemeterio Ysrelita" to bury their 9-month-old baby, Jacobo. With 13 graves, this is one of the smallest Jewish cemeteries still in continual use in the Americas.  The Tefels moved to Managua more than a century ago, converting to Christianity by the 1930s. As a result, five of the graves, including the most recent in 1993, display crosses, not Mogen David. As many as 20 of the Jewish families that arrived here before the 20th century converted to Christianity.
