A cemetery of the Federation of Synagogues, it is situated off the A13 New Road, in Rainham in the London Borough of Havering (although the postal address is still in Essex). If approaching from M25 London Orbital motorway exit at Junction 30 and take A13 westbound towards London.
The Cemetery's Burial Records are now ON-LINE at http://www.jewishgen.org/jcr-uk/Cemeteries/Federation/Rainham/INDEX.HTM and may be freely searched and viewed. They have been made available to the public by the Federation of Synagogues, through JCR-UK and JGSGB, and consist of over 25,800 records, from the opening of the cemetery in 1938 until 14 August 2015. UPDATE; In January 2016, the Federation of Synagogues sold approximately 20 acres of the cemetery site for £8.3 million (along with land owned by the adjoining Spring Farm) to an organization owning several other UK cemeteries), in part to finance the Federation' s new Edgwarebury Cemetery, Edgwarebury, the land for which was purchased some two years earlier. The Rainham cemetery originally comprised 106 acres and had space for a projected 50,000 graves of which only 60% are occupied.
