CEMETERIES.
- Thornton Street Cemetery (Orthodox), off Westgate Street:
Near to the old Temple Street Synagogue. First cemetery of the community. In use from about 1831 to 1851. Only a tiny part of the original plot remains, hidden away in a tiny secluded courtyard. The site was restored in 1981. Only about five weathered headstones survive.
The www.northeastjewish.org.uk website (no longer operative) had Jewish history of the Northeast England stated that. "On October 9th 1830 seven Jewish residents entered into an agreement to pay 4p each week to form a fund to purchase a cemetery... and 250 square yards of land was purchased in Thornton Street for a burial ground. This may be the cemetery, which still exists to this day behind Waterloo Street."
ACCESS: Through the front premises in Waterloo Chambers, on the corner of Thornton Street and Peel Lane, only with hthe permission of the front premises owners.
- Elswick Cemetery (Orthodox):
In use from 1857 to 1963. Extended in 1887 and 1889. Now full.

- Hazelrigg Cemetery (Orthodox):
Opened 1906. (1,199 records to 1990.) The Cemetery is actually situated just outside the border of Newcastlel, being in the part of Hazelrigg that falls within North Tyneside.

- Heaton Cemetery (Orthodox):
Opened 1915 by Jesmond Community. (364 records to 1990.)

- Newcastle Reform Synagogue North Shields Cemetery:
The Newcastle Reform Congregation uses a cemetery in near-by North Shields (which falls within North Tyneside). The cemetery forms a section of municipal Preston Road Cemetery, Preston, North Shields, and situated at the other end of the cemetery from the North Shields Old Jewish Cemetery. .[David Shulman, Webmaster JCR-UK, July 2016]
