CEMETERY:

  • Colchester Cemetery, Jewish Section, Mersea Road, Colchester CO2 8RU, Essex:

The Cemetery's Jewish Section was acquired by the Colchester and District Jewish Community (CDJC) in 2011, which has both an orthodox and a non-orthodox section.

The CDJC provides funeral services for Jews of all shades of observance. While the cemetery does not belong to the CDJC, anyone approaching the Cemetery Office (telephone 01206 282950) wanting an Orthodox burial will be referred to the CDJC to ensure that they are halachically Jewish and therefore entitled to an Orthodox burial. If they do not want an Orthodox service they are entitled to a non-Orthodox burial or cremation without reference to the CDJC, although the CDJC are willing to conduct such services.
