48 ° 12'36 "N, 25 ° 54'36 "E. Alternate names: Великий Кучурів [Ukr], Kuczurmare [Ger], Veliki Kuchuriv, (Romanian: Cuciurul Mare). The village is located on the banks of the river Dereli in the eastern part of Storojineţ district, 7 km from Chernivtsi/Chernivtsi, western Ukraine.

JEWISH CEMETERY:
I passed through Veliki Kuchuriv and found a previously well-fenced Jewish cemetery with only concrete fence poles left. The tombstones dated obviously from before the Shoa (picture), one tombstone "Auerbach" was apparently from the 1970s (picture). Locals claimed that the quite big "free" place within the perimeter of the former fence is actually a MASS GRAVE of about 100 Jews murdered by locals in July 1941, who were initially buried in the fields but were reburied on the Jewish cemetery in Soviet times when the Kolchoz chairman was a Jew called Bergmann. Mr. Bergman died a few years ago and his Gentile widow buried him in the Chernivtsi Jewish cemetery. Mrs. Bergmann was obviously afraid of talking to me. The mayor of Veliki Kuchuriv was very cooperative. His mother remembered the dead in the streets and hearing about 100 murdered Jews (some apparently in transit).
