International Jewish Cemetery Project - Malta

There are now 30 or 40 Jewish families in Malta.[date?] The name of the Rabbi is Herbert Richer. It is only a small cemetery, in the neighbourhood of a Moslem cemetery. There are maybe 50 or 60 white gravestones. I was there in 1996. Many Jews evacuated from Germany to Malta during the Nazi period. But not only Jews from Germany lived here. On the gravestones, you can read names from Poland, Spain, Russia, Hungary and other European countries, but you also can read about Jews from Australia and Shanghai. A very interesting place.
