The presence of Jews in Wittersdorf dated from 1804 with 76 in 1845. On July 27th, 1822, a petition of approval to construct a place of worship was submitted, but by January, 1869, no Jew lived in the village anymore. The unused synagogue was sold to the Almshouse of Mulhouse and the synagogue of Altkirch. The building acts as private home today. [January 2008]
