Hyeres is a town and commune in southeast Franc in the Var département, 15 km (10 mi) east of Toulon. 702 km SE of Paris and region Provence-Alpes-Côte of Azure, it is located on the bank of the Mediterranean Sea in the mouth of Gapeau, county seat of two districts and a seaside resort. Nicknamed Hyères-les-Palmiers thanks to the palms planted in the village and cultivated in nurseries. About 100,000 palm trees are exported from the area annually.With a population of 53,500 now, in the 19th century Hyeres' mild and healthy climate attracted Europe's rich and famous for the winter season.
