Renee Gottesman and Reeva Kimble visited the Rest Haven and Lane Memorial cemeteries, called some mortuaries, and talked to the secretary at the temple. An elderly woman remembers that before 1957, some Eugene residents were sent to Portland for burial.
Synagogues:
Temple Beth Israel of Eugene (was Conservative, became Reconstructionist in the late 1990s), 2550 Portland Street, Eugene OR 405-485-7218. Their current building dates from 1955. This was the only synagogue in Eugene until about four years ago. They keep NO records of burials.
Halachic Minyan (Orthodox): 405-334-6772; founded about 1996.
Eugene Masonic Cemetery: Temple Beth Israel Section. 25th and University, est. 2002 [January 2006] "... forested setting with many trees and wild flowers. EMC permits us to bury without using concrete liners, which are mandatory at Rest Haven. Lane Memorial Gardens Cemetery: 5300 West 11th, Eugene, OR 97402; 343-1684. Located off South 72nd Street and Daisy Lane in Springfield, Lane County,Oregon. The Jewish section has no graves in it. (Apparently, the cemeawaits future business.) Jews are buried in other parts of the cemetery. [August 2005]

The first cemetery burial in the Jewish section that holds about fifty graves as of 1999 occurred in 1957. Oregon JGS surveyed the cemetery in 2000.
