Coat of arms of Brzesko In Tarnow. Brzesko is a town in southern Poland in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, 50 km E of Kraków that is the capital of Brzesko County.Alternate names: Brzesko [Pol], Briegel [Yid], Brigel. 49°58' N, 20°37' E, 32 miles ESE of Kraków. Yizkor: Sefer yizkor shel kehilat Briegel-Brzesko ve-ha-seviva (Ramat-Gan, Israel, 1980).  1910 Jewish population: 2,430. The 1904 synagogue remains in good condition. One former prayer house stands empty. [April 2009]

CEMETERY: WWI Military Cemetery section (Brzesko no. 275) of the Jewish cemetery is one of the fifteen such sections in Poland. The Jewish cemetery houses two ohelot. A memorial marks the mass graves of Jews murdered by the Nazis. photos. [April 2009]
