The majority of the Tiszabezdéd Jews were merchants for the village. They belonged to the rabbinate of Mandok, but had a closer relationship with the congregation of Kisvarda. The synagogue was built in 1900. They had a cemetery and cheder, employed a shocket. who also was the teacher. In 1938, the synagogue was desecrated and other Jewish property vandalized. One family unable to prove citizenship was deported to Kamenec Podolsk, where they perished. After Passover 1944, the Jews were ghettoized in Kisvarda and shipped from there to Auschwitz. After the war, ten Jews returned, but did not attempt to rebuild the ruined synagogue abd soon left. [February 2009]
