Kijowice is a village in Poland located in Lower Silesian Voivodship in oleśnickim district in the municipality of Bierutów. Kijowice village is located west of Bierutów and formerly known as Kijowic. In 1975-1998, the town administratively belonged to Wroclaw province. [June 2009]
CEMETERY: Kijowice cemetery in the village served as a burial place of Jews living two km NE of Bierutów (Beirut, Bernstadt, Bernstadt in Schlesien at 51°07' N 17°32' E) except Milocicach that had its own cemetery. The cemetery was established in 1865, but little is known of its history. During WWII, the cemetery survived in pretty good condition. In the post-war years, the cemetery was devastated, and the stones ruined. Today, the 0.2 hectares site is entirely surrounded by a brick wall with the exception of a small breach resulting from trees. Not one complete gravestone remains. The grass may hide matzevot; part of stones were removed in one place. The whole area is heavily overgrown. The building was entered in the register of historic buildings on Jan 12, 1990. The still existing synagogue can be entered at the cemetery. Very friendly people will go to the cemetery and explain the place, if so requested.
