BREITENBACH n. Kassel: 34270 Hesse
Near Kassel. The Jewish Community (until 1938) was named Hoof-Breitenbach. Today Hoof and Breitenbach belong to Schauenburg. Breitenbach is a small village with 1600 citizens, Hoof with 3000. Currently there are no Jewish people in Breitenbach. In 1930 Hoof had 220 and Breitenbach had 60 Jewish residents. There is a former synagogue in Hoof.
The cemetery is between Hoof and Breitenbach, near the "Korbacher Strasse". Source: Christian Abendroth [June 2002] This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
" I have over 80 tombstones photographs from the cemetery of the former Jewish communities of Hoof and Breitenbach, a few miles west of Kassel, Hessen.
Not all of the tombstones have legible inscriptions, but most do.
Below is a list of family names identified on the tombstones. If you would like copies of tombstones for one of more of these names, please email me for
scanned images (.jpg format.) Some tombstones with Hebrew-only inscriptions are quite eroded and not yet identified.
