Of the 50 places in Ukraine named Kamjanka, this one is 38 miles NNW of Kirovohrad (Elizavetgrad), 28 miles S of Cherkasy at 49°02' N, 32°06' E. 1900 Jewish population: 2,193. 2011 population is 12,956. This provincial town approx. 300 km. to SE of Kiev on the bank of Tiasmyn River is known as an artist's colonyin which Prince Grigori Alexandrovich Potemkin, Russian national poet Alexander Pushkin,  omposer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, freethinkers, and war heroes since Napoleon's wars worked.
