Alternate names: Nereta [Latv], Nerft [Ger], Narrata, Neretas, Myza Nereta. 56°10' N, 25°18' E , On the Lithuanian border, 32 miles SSE of Jaunjelgava (Friedrichstadt), 30 miles SW of Jēkabpils (Jakobstadt). 1935 Jewish population: 54. The municipality was formed in 2009 by merging Mazzalve parish, Nereta parish, Pilskalne and Zalve parish with the administrative center in Nereta.

MASS GRAVE: Ciganu Mountain. From Aizkraukle on R86 highway, the mass grave is located near the sign "Nereta - 20km; Aizkraukle - 30km", July through early August 1941.
