Jászberény at 47°30′N 19°55′E is a city and market center in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county in central Hungary on the Zagyva River, a tributary of the Tisza River about 62 mi from Budapest. The Jász people, Iranian descent, settled the area in the 13th century. Under the Habsburgs, the inhabitants of the city banded together to buy their independence, an event locally referred to as the 'Act of Redemption'. Jászberény is rumoured to be the burial place of Attila the Hun.

Jászberény Jewish cemetery caretaker is István Ménkö (Bognár u. 6.). Cemetery is located on Szent Imre Road. The Holocaust memorial carries the names of 537 Jews of the town killed in WWII. [February 2009]
