Synagogue was built in 1895, abandoned in 1941, sold in 1948, and used as a private residential building today. The 19th century Jewish Community ended in 1941. This Jewish section of the municipal cemetery established in 1890 still exists with 29 monuments and one family mausoleum. Some monuments have the date of birth marked with a Star of David and the date of death with a cross. Tombs like this are relatively well maintained. The other, "purely" Jewish tombs (I,e,, without the cross), however, are not. No significant distance is between them and the rest of the cemetery. A couple of these stones are lying on the ground, either toppled deliberately or fallen because of the ground's condition. Names on the tombs are all Ashkenazi with German, Hebrew, and Croatian inscriptions. Overall, maintenance is relatively good. [January 2009]
