A complex of five subcamps along the Sava River, the largest Croatian camps, was known as Jasenovac and included those at Krapje, Brocica, Ciglana, Kozasa close to one another about 60 miles (97 km) south of Zagreb. The fifth, Stara Gradiska, was further. By estimate, the number of Jews killed at Jasenovac ranges from 8,000 to 20,000. Most of the 7,000 Jews from Croatian camps sent to Auschwitz were sent from Jasenovac. A museum established at Jasenovac houses archives, tapes, documents, and other relics documenting the camp that was sent to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where it was catalogued and restored and returned in December 2001 after cessation of fighting in the Balkans.
