Colţirea is 3 mi from Ardusat in a commune in western Maramureş County on the banks of the Someş River near the border with Satu Mare County dating from 1230. Ardusat commune is composed of three villages: Ardusat, Colţirea and Arieşu de Câmp. [May 2011]
This Jewish cemetery discovered in Coltirea by Simon Geissbuehler was unknown to the Romanian Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania (FCER) as of 2009. Located at 47°62' N, 23°40 in Maramures County, close to the border to Satu Mare County, 15km or 9 miles from Baia Mare, the Jewish population in 1900 is unknown. The present town population is unknown with no Jews.
The cemetery is located on flat land at the entrance to the village. It is isolated and has no sign or marker. The cemetery is reached by turning directly off the main public road through the village. Access is open to all with no fence, wall, or gate. Approximately 20 gravestones are visible, mainly from the late 19th and the early 20th century. The present owner of the cemetery property is unknown. The site seems to be used partially for agricultural use. Properties adjacent to the cemetery are agricultural and residential. Vegetation has been cleared partially, probably by the owner of the land. No structures are within the cemetery. The main threat is security/uncontrolled access (serious threat).
