Melilla is a Spanish territorial enclave (as is the larger Ceuta) located along Morocco's Mediterranean coast. It is next to the Moroccan city of Nador. Melilla has been held by Spain since 1497 and remained Spanish, even following the independence of Spanish Morocco in 1956.
